Today’s Exploration

Today you will identify your most influential negative core belief and examine how it has affected your life. If you can’t identify it immediately, give it some thought throughout the day. Consider your experiences in childhood, as a teenager, or even recently when you've found yourself feeling “less than” or “not enough” in some way.

If you can’t seem to pinpoint your most influential negative core belief, just pick one from this list to work with. Choose the one that feels the most familiar.

  • “I don’t fit in.”
  • “I’m unlovable.”
  • “There’s not enough.”
  • “I’m not capable.”
  • “I’m not attractive enough.”
  • “I’ll never get what I want.”
  • “I’m not smart enough.”

Now make a list of all the ways you’ve seen your negative core belief influence you. Think about these questions:

  • What has this core belief prevented me from doing?
  • What activities or friendships have I missed out on because of this core belief?
  • How has this core belief affected my experiences? Has it caused me anxiety, stress, worry, fear, or depression?
